Phew! That was the longest winter ever. But I made it through, and for a Georgia native like myself going through a New York winter, that is a really, REALLY good thing. It took a toll on my psyche and my ability to stay active. But now I am ready for the beach…oh wait, am I? Beach + heat = swimsuit! This equation is one that many us dread when the summer comes around.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am all about exercise and health. I love talking about exercise and great ways to fit health into a busy lifestyle. As a military spouse, I have a busy schedule and don’t have time to keep up with some of the suggestions of many health experts. I have found some things that help me on my quest to optimum health that fit conveniently into my military lifestyle.

Here are a few tips that will help you look great and feel confident in your swimsuit this summer:

Make meals and snacks on Sunday. One thing I love to do is boil and peel eggs ahead of time. This way when you are in a hurry and need a healthy snack, this great source of protein is there for the taking.

Exercise in the morning. We all know that the later you put off exercising the greater the chance it will not be accomplished. Something always comes up. I always exercise before my family gets up; that way I have no distractions.

Create great drinks. I love getting creative with healthy drinks. Incorporating water, green tea, lemon, apple cider vinegar, grapefruit juice, ginger and even cayenne pepper to create delicious and healthy drinks to quench your thirst in the heat is great. Combining these ingredients in different ways gives variation to your concoctions.

Walk, walk and walk some more. Just because you exercise in the morning doesn’t mean you have an excuse to stop moving. It is very important to stay moving throughout the day. A good idea is to use triggers throughout the day. For example, whenever you talk on the phone, use it as an opportunity to walk around. Another good idea is to only watch your favorite show while walking on the treadmill. These “triggers” will keep you moving.

Play with your kids. This is the best kind of exercise and activity. You kill two birds with one stone! Quality family time and staying fit—it doesn’t get better than that. Plus, it is fun!

These are a few tips that have helped me in the past and I will definitely implement for this summer. I hope this will help you as well. We will be rockin’ that swimsuit in no time!

Till next time…stay inspired.
